Prof. (Dr.) Achyut Chandra Baishya is a distinguished public health expert and senior medical educator with over 38 years of experience in medical education, healthcare administration, public health, and research. He holds an MBBS degree from Gauhati University, along with DGO and MD in Social & Preventive Medicine (Community Medicine).

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Baishya has held several prestigious positions, including Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Executive Director of National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, Director of the Regional Resource Centre for North Eastern States (RRC-NE), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, and Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine at both Gauhati Medical College and Tezpur Medical College.  

Dr. Baishya has made significant contributions to strengthening public health systems, medical education, disease control programmes, and health policy implementation in Assam and the North Eastern region. He is a Life Member of the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA), Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine (IAPSM), and the Indian Medical Association (IMA). He has also authored over 30 scientific publications in reputed medical journals.

Prof. (Dr.) Achyut Chandra Baishya joined as the Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of Nalbari Medical College & Hospital on 15 July 2026. Under his leadership, the institution aims to further strengthen excellence in medical education, patient care, research, and community health services.
